🧭 Day 1 CPT Policy at North Carolina Wesleyan University
The Executive Programs at North Carolina Wesleyan University are designed for international students studying in the U.S. and domestic students interested in a hybrid format. They emphasize the integration of professional experience and practical application of course content to enrich the educational journey. Practical training is an integral component of their curriculum, accessible to all participants.
As international students at North Carolina Wesleyan University, they are eligible to apply for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) from the first day of enrollment, in accordance with the regulations set by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This allows them to engage in work opportunities that are directly related to their field of study. These work opportunities may include internships, student teaching, cooperative education programs and practical experiences which are a required part of the student’s academic program, or for which academic credit is granted. Students authorized for CPT will receive a new SEVIS I-20 with the CPT notation.
To use CPT, students must enroll in a 1-credit, 16-week Applied Learning Internship course each semester.

There are 3 semesters in a year for Day 1 CPT Programs at : Fall, Spring and Summer.
International students in the Executive Program enroll in three courses per semester, totaling 7 semester hours. Each semester comprises a 16-week course (3 credits) and an 8-week course (3 credits) focused on program-specific content. Additionally, students must attend an intensive residency weekend each term as part of their studies. The third course includes an Applied Learning Internship (1 credit), enabling students to apply the knowledge from their other courses in practical settings through work or internship opportunities.
Onsite frequency: Students enrolled in the Executive Graduate Programs must participate in three residency weekends each year, one per semester. The total number of residency weekends varies based on the chosen program and its pathway. These weekends take place in the Fall (October), Spring (March), and Summer (June) at NCWU’s main campus in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Attendance for all three days—Friday, Saturday, and Sunday—is compulsory. Requests for late arrivals or early departures will not be granted.

- MS IT Management
Attending each Executive Residency weekend is compulsory. Any request for absence must be reviewed and approved in advance by the Program Director in conjunction with the Graduate Advisor DSO before a residency session. Students are allowed to request to miss no more than one residency session during their entire academic program. For each missed session, whether approved or not, students must complete the absence request form, submit official documentation, attend a make-up session, and pay a $300 Residency Make-Up fee. Make-Up sessions must be completed before the semester ends. Failure to comply with this policy will lead to dismissal from the executive program.

According to the NCWU catalog and graduate program policies, students who have previously completed graduate-level coursework may receive up to 6 hours of transfer credit. The Registrar will evaluate the official graduate-level transcript to identify equivalent coursework and approve transfer credits.
