CPT Hybrid Programs for International Students

Reminder
Reminder

The term “Day 1 CPT universities” generally refers to institutions that allow eligible international students to apply for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) beginning in their first semester of study, provided that the program includes an integrated practical component. While some schools may support early CPT access, approval is not guaranteed on the first day and depends on the timely and accurate submission of required documentation. CPT authorization typically takes 5 to 15 business days after the complete application is submitted and reviewed.

🧭 CPT Policy at NEC

New England College offers executive master programs and has helped international students from over 25 countries achieve their graduate degrees. Executive programs are designed with working professionals in mind. They believe applied academics should be tied to the professions, and professions can benefit from practitioners with advanced degrees. The programs are delivered in a hybrid format in which international students complete the program in six semesters (three semesters each year), with online work during the semester and a three-day campus residency each semester.

How to get CPT approval and authorization:

Since all NEC executive master programs require a work placement/internship enrollment from the beginning of the program, CPT will be approved and authorized by your DSO for eligible experiences related directly to your program of study, so that international students may work immediately from the beginning of your program.

Please be reminded that any prior work authorization (if you had it) ends with your SEVIS record transfer date if you are transferring to NEC.

Students are not authorized to work again until they receive NEC’s I-20 with a CPT authorization on page 2. Always remember to safeguard your status: Unauthorized work will jeopardize your SEVIS record, your status, and future applications, such as for H1Bs.

To be approved and then authorized for your required Internship and CPT, you will complete an EAF (Employment Authorization Form) which will be provided with your Acceptance materials along with the Next Steps documents.

Your NEC DSO will process your request and send you an I-20 documenting your CPT authorization.

If you have more questions about CPT at NEC, please contact us immediately!
