Reminder
The term “Day 1 CPT universities” generally refers to institutions that allow eligible students to apply for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) beginning in their first semester of study, provided that the program includes an integrated practical component. While some schools may support early CPT access, approval is not guaranteed on the first day and depends on the timely and accurate submission of required documentation. CPT authorization typically takes 5 to 15 business days after the complete application is submitted and reviewed.

🧭 CPT Policy at WUST
Washington University of Science and Technology (WUST) is committed to facilitating Curricular Practical Training (CPT) for its F-1 visa students in accordance with USCIS regulations. As outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations 8 CFR 214.2(f)(10)(i), CPT must be an integral part of the established curriculum, allowing students to engage in practical training that is directly related to their major field of study.
At WUST, students are eligible for CPT after completing one full academic year in a degree-awarding program in the U.S., with transfer students potentially qualifying from their first day if they have already met this requirement at a previous institution.
While there is no restriction on the duration of CPT participation at WUST, students should be mindful that exceeding 12 months of full-time CPT may impact their eligibility for Optional Practical Training (OPT). To ensure compliance and maximize the benefits of CPT, students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and secure a valid training offer related to their program.
If you have more questions about CPT at WUST, please contact us immediately!
WUST has four quarters each academic year: Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer. At WUST, an academic year is divided into 4 quarters. Each quarter is 10 weeks long, including final exams. Students must enroll in two courses for each quarter, with one course delivered entirely online and the other in a hybrid format.
Students must attend on-campus classes in the third, sixth, and ninth weeks of each semester, amounting to three in-person sessions per semester. The rest of the coursework can be completed online, offering flexibility and convenience for students managing academics alongside professional obligations.
Students are allowed to take a break for one quarter after completing three consecutive quarters.
Onsite Frequency: Master's students attend onsite classes once per month, totaling nine times per calendar year. F-1 students can only be excused from an in-person class session for a documented emergency or medical event. International F-1 students who have unexcused absences for all of their on-campus class sessions in a given quarter will be terminated for failure to maintain their F-1 status.
