Get Your Day 1 CPT Application Approved In 3 Business Days
by Arjun Singh on Jul 30, 2023
After you get the offer from the Day-1 CPT school and prepare to enroll, the first thing you need to consider is how to apply for CPT—how can you get CPT and start working as quickly as possible? Why is there no follow-up after 1 week of you submitting your CPT application?
In today's article, I will take Monroe University as an example to give you a detailed introduction to the CPT fast application process.
Step 1: Admission Offer
An important prerequisite for applying for CPT is to get an admission offer from the school!
Step 2:
After receiving and accepting the school's offer, the new school will usually send an email instructing you on how to transfer your SEVIS record from the original school to the new school. Only after the SEVIS is transferred from the original school to the new school can the new school issue the student an i20 and, subsequently, a CPT authorization.
Notes:
Students can choose a SEVIS transfer date.
Monroe University recommends that it is best to transfer SEVIS 15 days before the start of the school year (some schools, such as New England College (NEC), can transfer SEVIS no later than three working days before the start of school).
After SEVIS is transferred to a new school, the OPT of the original school will be automatically terminated. Before the effective period of CPT, students will not be able to work. Students need to arrange their own time in advance to avoid illegal work.
Step 3
After SEVIS transfers to the new school, students need to choose courses in time (CPT practical courses). Some schools, such as Monroe, HU, and Ottawa, also need to pay the tuition fees for the selected credits (Monroe’s tuition policy is that before the start of the school year, tuition fees are 100% Refundable).
Step 4
After completing course selection and payment, students will receive an email asking them to apply for CPT. They only need to follow the email prompts and send the required materials to the relevant departments of the school.
Materials required for CPT application (usually)
-
i94
-
Job Offer Letter
-
Employer CPT Cooperative Agreement signature
-
Screenshot of successful tuition payment (this material is only for some schools that need to pay tuition in advance; because the school tuition system usually has a delay, so if you take the initiative to send the successful payment record to the school, the school will process it faster!)
Step 5
After the required materials are submitted, the school will review and approve the application in the order of submission. Usually, if the materials are complete, Monroe University will complete the CPT authorization in about 3 working days (it will be faster during non-peak periods).
The above are the complete steps of CPT application. Under normal circumstances, it usually takes 5-10 working days for most schools to transfer SEVIS to the final CPT. If all goes well, there are also cases where the CPT can be won within 2 days at the fastest (many students reported that NEC applied for CPT quickly...). If the CPT application has not progressed for half a day, you can compare it with the above guidelines to see where the problem is.
According to our previous communication with the teachers of the school’s International Office, many times, students’ CPT applications are stuck in the following places:
· The original school did not transfer SEVIS out (at this time, the original school needs to be reminded to release SEVIS as soon as possible)
· The tuition fee has not been paid (applicable to some schools. At this time, you only need to pay the tuition fee as soon as possible and send the screenshot of the completed payment to the designated email address of the CPT application. Sometimes the tuition fee is paid by credit card. The school tuition system may show a delay, so it is better to send the screenshot directly. fastest)
· The employer did not return the signed CPT Cooperative Agreement to the school (Hurry up and urge the employer to sign and send it back...)
