Reminder
The term “Day 1 CPT universities” generally refers to institutions that allow eligible students to apply for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) beginning in their first semester of study, provided that the program includes an integrated practical component. While some schools may support early CPT access, approval is not guaranteed on the first day and depends on the timely and accurate submission of required documentation. CPT authorization typically takes 5 to 15 business days after the complete application is submitted and reviewed.

Founded in 1898 in Decatur, Texas, Dallas Baptist University (DBU) moved to Dallas in 1965 following an invitation from the Dallas Baptist Association. The original campus, donated by John Stemmons, Roland Pelt, and associates, has grown from its initial acreage to 368 acres through various donations, including a significant contribution from the Louis Hexter family in 1994. DBU transitioned from a junior college to a senior college in 1968, started awarding four-year bachelor's degrees in 1970, and became Dallas Baptist University in 1985, now comprising the College of Arts and Sciences, the Mary C. Crowley College of Christian Faith, the Dorothy M. Bush College of Education, and the College of Business.

🧭 Day 1 CPT Policy at Dallas Baptist University
Dallas Baptist University (DBU) grants CPT work authorization to international students in accordance with USCIS regulations. If the conditions are met, international students may receive CPT to work from the first day of enrollment.
If you are applying for an F1 visa for the first time when you are physically outside of the US, or transferring from another status (e.g. H1B, H4, B1, L2, etc.) to F1 status, only MS Information Technology Management - Professional Track currently supports Day-1 CPT. Students in other programs need to wait until their third semester before they can start using CPT.
If you are an F-1 student transferring to DBU from another school or still under OPT, you can apply for CPT from the first semester and renew it every semester. This way, you can work with CPT authorization without gaps during the program.
How to get CPT approval and authorization:
Since most of the DBU master programs require a work placement/internship enrollment, CPT will be approved and then authorized by your DSO for eligible experiences tied directly to your program of study.
Please be reminded that any prior work authorization (if you had it) ends with your SEVIS record transfer date if you are Transferring to DBU.
Students are not authorized to work again until they receive DBU’s I-20 with a CPT authorization on page 2. Always remember to safeguard your status: Unauthorized work will jeopardize your SEVIS record, your status, and future applications, such as for H1Bs.
Your DBU DSO will process your request and send you an I-20 documenting your CPT authorization upon approval.
If you have more questions about Day 1 CPT at DBU, please contact us immediately!
